La revista especializada francesa REGGAE VIBES publica en su recién editado número 70 (con el logico retraso motivado por la crisis del covid-19) una crónica del segundo álbum, homonimo de los italianos NORTH EAST SKA*JAZZ ORCHESTRA. Bajo estas lineas la traducción.

«Cuando no construyen bombas Roots con sus amigos
de Wicked Dub Division, estos italianos también desarrollan un
distinguido eclecticismo. Difieren de las innumerables formaciones de ska-jazz que florecieron en la segunda mitad
90 y que fueron rápidamente asumidas a
fuerza de usar un jazz mediocre con el añadido de un poco de ritmo ska en la sombra. Por suerte,
la monotonía está lejos de los primeros redobles de batería que suenan: ingredientes jamaicanos
y estadounidenses se iluminan con
excelentes arreglos de viento y una flauta fascinante.
La majestuosidad de su colaboración con
WDD se impone aquí con otra dosificación. Lo que continua sonando revela el timbre canalla de la cantante y los breaks encadenados, a cada cual mejor. Su caricaturesco cantante-crooner toma el relevo en un explosivo ska-swing. Es cierto que ahí tenemos casi una big-band, ya que los 13 miembros de la banda son complementados con invitados, como esa tan delicada seccion de cuerda en «So Great», rocksteady derritiéndose. Luego viene un ska épico con fuertes sabores estadounidenses de los años 60 y ¡esto no es más que la primera cara del disco! Con un talento innegable para composiciones sutiles o incluso inusuales, NESJO hace un strike en su primer intento (sic), impresionante de principio a fin. ERD»
«When they are not creating Roots bombs with their buddies
of Wicked Dub Division, these
Italians also develop a
distinguished eclecticism. They differ from the countless ska-jazz formations that flourished in the the second half of the 90’s that quickly became dull due to the use of a mediocre jazz with a little bit of ska rhythm in its shadows. Fortunately,
monotony is far away from the first drum rolls: Jamaican and American ingredients lit up with
superb brass arrangements and a spellbinding flute.
The majesty of their title with
WDD imposes itself here by another
dosage. What follows reveals the
scoundrel timbre of their female singer and a set of linked breaks each one better than the one before. Their cartoonesque crooner takes over
an explosive ska-swing. It is true that it’s almost like a big-band, because guests are added to the thirteen members of the band, like the delicate string section on «So Great», melting rocksteady. Then comes an epic ska with strong American flavours from the 60’s, and that’s only the first side of the record! With an undeniable talent for subtle or even unusual compositions, NESJO scores a strike in the first shot (sic), impressive from beginning to end. ERD»
