NESJO – Heart and Soul (video)

North East Ska Jazz Orchestra transforms this classic into a powerful ska-jazz piece featuring almost 20 musicians, replacing the original swing with Jamaican rhythms, arranged by Max Ravanello.

‘Heart and Soul’, released in 1938 by Larry Clinton and his Orchestra, transformed this composition by Hoagy Carmichael into a cultural phenomenon. With Bea Wain on vocals, the single reached number 1 on the charts, becoming the most successful interpretation in its history. Its greatest legacy lies in having popularised a harmonic progression so simple and catchy that it ended up becoming the most famous piano duet in the world, practised by generations of beginners.

An explosion of brass and Jamaican rhythm transforms Heart and Soul into an irresistible ska-jazz anthem.
