On 16 April 2026 at 9:30 p.m., we will be able to enjoy one of the greatest legends of international music at the Kafe Antzokia venue in Bilbao: LOVE.

In 2026, we celebrate the 60th anniversary of a masterpiece: Da Capo. The album that broke the mould in 1966 with its fusion of jazz, punk and psychedelia comes to life at the hands of founding guitarist and co-creator of that sound, Johnny Echols. A historic concert to relive gems such as ‘7 and 7 Is’ and celebrate the legacy of Los Angeles’ first great interracial rock band.

Johnny Echols: the living legend of LOVE

Co-founder and lead guitarist of the legendary band LOVE, Johnny Echols is a key figure in the history of psychedelic rock. A childhood friend of Arthur Lee, together they formed one of the first multi-ethnic bands in the United States in 1965 in Los Angeles, masterfully blending folk, rock, R&B and psychedelia.

Echols was the architect of the guitars on the band’s three seminal albums: the self-titled Love (1966), the innovative Da Capo (1966) and the undisputed masterpiece Forever Changes (1967), often cited as one of the greatest albums of all time.

In 2026, celebrating the 60th anniversary of the band’s debut and Da Capo, Echols returns to the stage leading The Love Band. Accompanied by the musicians of Baby Lemonade—who were Arthur Lee’s band from 1993 until his death in 2006—Johnny Echols keeps the legacy of LOVE alive, performing the classics that defined an era with the same passion and virtuosity as six decades ago.

Released in the effervescence of 1966, Da Capo is not just an album; it is the manifesto of a band that dared to break all the rules of rock. On their second album, Love, led by the visionary genius of Arthur Lee, they masterfully fused frenetic punk, baroque folk and jazz textures.

From the electric intensity of ‘7 and 7 Is’ to the dreamlike delicacy of ‘She Comes in Colors,’ the album captures a unique moment in the history of Los Angeles music. With sophisticated instrumentation that includes flutes and harpsichords, Da Capo foreshadowed the sound of decades to come, influencing legends ranging from the Rolling Stones to today’s indie scene.

In 2026, on the 60th anniversary of its original release, we celebrate a work that still sounds as fresh, daring and fascinating as the day it was recorded.
