THE PEPPER POTS – Shake It! – CD

Label: Brixton Records
Code: BR-025-CD
Format: compact disc, album
Release: 2007

It’s that simple: give it a shake and take your time savouring this cocktail of black music. A return to the glorious era of the clubs, where all sorts of people come together to dance, drink and enjoy themselves whilst listening to and dancing to the best music of all time. A classy venue where people dress to the nines and let their hair down on the dance floor. Taking their cue from the 1960s, The Pepper Pots revive the sound of the bands that set the dance floors alight and rose to fame thanks to labels such as Trojan, Studio One and the American label Motown, amongst others.

The Pepper Pots were formed in 2002. After two years on the scene, they released their first LP, *Swinging Sixties*, on the Basque label Brixton Records; an album distributed throughout Europe. It wasn’t until 2006 that the band took a giant leap forward in their career, appearing on several compilation albums, performing over 40 gigs during the year and sharing the stage with exceptional acts such as Laurel Aitken, Derrick Morgan, Dave Barker, Winston Francis, The Aggrolites, Mr T-Bone, Dr Ring Ding, Macka B, The Toasters, the New York Ska Jazz Ensemble, Ki-Mani Marley… culminating in a tour of their own, taking part in festivals in major European cities such as Brussels, Berlin, Neuchâtel and Prague…

The Pepper Pots kick off 2007 with their second album, *SHAKE IT!*, on which they draw on all the experience they have gained and their renewed love for black music from previous decades. This album, released and distributed by Brixton Records in Europe and by Ska in the World in Japan, features some stellar guest artists: a special appearance by the Jamaican group The Pioneers (Jackie Robinson and George Dekker), the French group A.S.P.O. and the German group Dr. Ring Ding. It is an album recorded on analogue equipment using period instruments, continuing along the path set out on their first LP, but this time featuring a 20-strong orchestra that contributes to several tracks on the album.

In short… this is what you’ll find on this LP: an album for dancing and for taking you back to the era when ska, rocksteady, early reggae and soul were the pop music of the day.
