VA – Brixton Cats & the Reggaeboys – CD

Second sampler produced by Brixton Records, which serves as a little taste of what we were doing in 2003. Focusing basically on ska and rocksteady, on this album we also open up to roots rockers dub reggae. The cover artwork (just like Brixton Cats & the Rudies) is inspired by the famous mid-1960s album Brixton Cat, and the music is the result of blending a new generation of reggae musicians with old-school vibes.

Traditional Afro-Jamaican ska-jazz with the great David Hillyard & the Rocksteady 7 from New York; early reggae with Proyecto Secreto from Belgium; rocksteady with The Starlites and The Slackers; boogaloo-ska with La Thorpe Brass from Catalonia; Ambassah meets Dub Generation—a project led by “Dubby” featuring countless collaborations and the heartbeat of one of the most restless percussionists in the roots scene; ska-soul with Akatz from Bilbao; roots-rockers like BDF-Basque Dub Foundation, straight to their roots and with a 70s touch; Loud & Lone, the incarnation of Roberto Sánchez and Borja Juanco from their A-Lone studio.

A selection of bands playing diverse Jamaican styles but with one thing in common: every single band respects and loves reggae.
