Recorded in December 2007 and mixed and mastered in early 2008, “Just Delightin’” is THE GRAMOPHONE ALLSTARS’ debut album. It comprises 12 tracks: four covers and eight original compositions. Among these four covers are two renditions of soul classics by Maxine Brown and Rufus Thomas. As a ska-jazz band, they couldn’t fail to include two Jamaican standards such as ‘In a Mellow Tone’ and ‘A Night in Tunisia’, alongside original tracks like ‘Taronja’, ‘What An Equinox’ and ‘Vietnam’, which explore the genre’s diverse possibilities. But this album also features other styles, such as the instrumental rocksteady of ‘Round Trip’, the reggae of ‘Mumps’ Invasión’, the roots sound of ‘Makin’ Love With Loneliness’ and the boogaloo of ‘Gettin’ Hot’. Finally, the album is rounded off with a ska track in the purest Skatalites style: ‘A Song For Pauleta’.
