As of today, the new digital single from the NORTH EAST SKA JAZZ ORCHESTRA is available on all digital platforms.“Killer Joe” is the second single from the upcoming jazz standards album by the North East Ska-Jazz Orchestra (NESJO).
This song is a heartfelt tribute to the legendary saxophonist and composer Benny Golson—one of the last titans of the golden age of jazz—who passed away in September 2024. Golson originally recorded “Killer Joe” in 1960. The song spread so rapidly through the global music scene that, by 1968, Tommy McCook (the iconic saxophonist and founding member of The Skatalites) had already conceived and recorded its first ska-influenced version. NESJO’s new instrumental version draws direct inspiration from the genius of these two pioneering artists.
