THE NEW YORK SKA-JAZZ ENSEMBLE – Double Edge – LP

‘Double Edge’ is the New York band’s 11th album. In the words of Rock Steady Freddie Reiter, the band’s frontman, “it is a work dedicated to our fans”, on which, in addition to the usual star-studded line-up that makes up NYSJE, the album features “top-class” guest appearances such as the vocals of Jamaican star JC Lodge on the single “Weak In Love”. Other notable collaborations include Andy Bassford on guitar (Toots & the Maytals, Gregory Isaacs), Kim Miller on vocals (Israel Vibration), Larry McDonald on percussion (David Hillyard & RS7, Gil Scott-Heron) and Kevin Batchelor on trumpet (the Skatalites). Renowned producer Michael Goldwasse of Easy Star Records also contributes his expertise, mixing six sparkling tracks.

“Double Edge” features the customary instrumental mastery we’ve come to expect from NYSJE, danceable rhythms drawing on both ska and jazz influences, and a track that is sure to become a classic.
