PROYECTO SECRETO – Bruce Lee Is Back – CD

Since their first songs on Brixton Records, PROYECTO SECRETO, our Belgian-Chilean band, has grown into a magnificent ska-jazz, Latin ska, and rocksteady outfit. Proof of this is Bruce Lee is Back, a true treat for both your feet and your mind.

The history of PS begins in 1995 when Roberto and Michael formed the band “The Subzero Skaband.” Unfortunately, the band split up in 1997; however, the energy generated did not vanish. Thus, in 1998, Eduardo decided to travel to Belgium to visit his good friend Roberto (both are from Valparaíso, Chile). And there he stayed, as in December 1998, the “skatalitic bomb” PROYECTO SECRETO was born. Within a couple of years, P.S. transformed into one of the hottest Belgian bands. They started out playing gigs in small cafés, squats, and clubs around the city of Ghent, and a year later, they were touring all over Belgium. In September 2000, they launched their first international tour, which took them to cities like Bilbao, Madrid, Seville, Valencia, and Tarragona. In 2001, they visited the Basque Country again, opening for the master Rico Rodriguez and performing at festivals alongside The Trojans, Skunk, Akatz… That same year, they appeared on the compilation Brixton Cats and the Rudies (Brixton Records).

In late 2001 and early 2002, the band took a break from the road, but behind the scenes, things kept moving as they prepared their first full-length album. Finally, in April 2003, PROYECTO SECRETO released their debut album on the Brixton Records label. This was a very special year for PS, as they rightfully performed on the main stage at the festival of their hometown, Ghent, and even shared the stage with the incredible Tokyo Ska Paradise Orchestra. They also traveled to the Basque Country once again, performing at festivals alongside Bad Manners and Alton Ellis, in addition to recording two more tracks for the compilation Brixton Cats and the Reggaeboys (Brixton Records). 2003 ended with the major “Ska Antwerpen” festival, which also featured Alton Ellis, Rude Rich and the Highnotes, The Toasters, and The Moon Invaders… and that very same week, they shared the stage with the masters of Jamaican music, The Skatalites. In 2004, PS continued to receive an excellent reception from both the public and critics, performing at major Belgian festivals such as Pole Pole Beach, Fonnefeesten, and the Viva Lola Festival. Following tradition, the year wrapped up with a massive concert alongside David Hillyard & The Rocksteady 7, which is still remembered by all ska fans in Ghent and the surrounding areas.
