There is always a beginning, and this was ours: a maxi-CD featuring the fantastic harmonies and vocals of the ultimate rocksteady band.
The Starlites were formed in 1996 by most of the original members of the legendary band Banana Boats. First as Los Fabulosos Dolbys and finally as The Starlites, they set out to revitalize the sounds of the golden era of Jamaican music—the sounds that fuse soul with Jamaican ska: rocksteady.
After including the track “Gorabidean” on the Araba Euskaraz compilation album, the Basque-Riojan combo—led in songwriting by Ezequiel García (ex-Dr. Calypso, ex-Banana Boats)—entered the studio to record what would become their debut release. A 4-track maxi-CD that clearly displays their intentions and influences, and in which they put all their resources into reproducing the sound they love so much: rhythmic, swinging melodies that caress your ears. The record includes 3 original tracks (“I Need You”, “Dance Rocksteady”, “People Get Ready”) and a cover of a track by the great D. Penn (“Close to Me”).
