Two of the cornerstones of Bilbao’s black music scene have joined forces on a three-track EP with the sole aim of celebrating the enduring vitality of classic soul and R&B tracks.

The Cherry Boppers have been performing their repertoire of funk and soul on stages across Europe for over 10 years. Their 2008 album ‘Play It Again!’ established them as a leading act on the Spanish black music scene, a status they have maintained ever since through their energetic live performances.

Dr. Baltz is the alter ego of Bita – singer with Akatz – as a selector, turntablist and DJ. Since 1992, Akatz have proudly and devotedly played one of the most important roles within the Basque Jamaican music scene.

The songs chosen for this magnificent event are “I Don’t Need No Doctor” by Ray Charles, re-titled “Yo No Necesito Un Doctor”, “Mr. Pitiful” by Otis Redding, transformed into “El Patético”, and “Shake Me Baby” by Maceo Parker & All The King’s Men, now called “Solo Tienes que Encenderme”.

With the lyrics adapted into Spanish, Dr Baltz sings in his own distinctive style, recreating the original spirit of these black music classics, backed by the powerful instrumental support of The Cherry Boppers’ well-oiled rhythm section.
