GBR-044-LP+CD - 2019

EL LOCO RITMO Y BLUES DE...  is the third album of Berlin four-piece La Mafia del Baile (double bass, guitar, harmonica/keyboard, drums), Berlin’s foremost Surf/Punkabilly band in a style they call “Street Rhythm ‘n’ Blues”.

This new album sails a solid route between Ramones-styled party punk with a power-pop touch (“I Scream”), syncopated rhythms (“Chica Differente”) and rhythm & blues (“Estoy Bien”, “Otso Neska”), steps on the gas for proto-punk “Anfetamina” and even drags Doo-Wop screaming into the 21st century with their self-penned “Too Young”.

Their eclectic tastes are showcased on classic psych-punk covers like the Animals “I’m Crying” (“Escuchame”), Les Nikis’ “Fiesta Medieval” and one of the first ever punk songs “Demoler” by Peruvian ‘60’s psych-punks Los Saicos.

Their music (double bass on speed, `60’s garage organ, raw blues guitar and harmonicas peppered with sexed-up maracas) is a unique authentic metamorphosis of R’n’R as primal scream. Elements of garage punk, exotica, country blues and radio ballad explode in parallel – a distorted melodic bump ‘n’ grind. This is no fake retro style trip – this is electric street music for the last party in town – this is La Mafia
